This tutorial is designed to help academic students get acquainted with the Summit University online learning environment called Moodle.

How to Use This Tutorial

There are two sections to this tutorial: 1) general Moodle features, and 2) Moodle resources and activities.  On each page of the tutorial, you will find a how-to video, a PDF of the video script, written instructions for using the feature, and a challenge exercise to practice in the Moodle Sandbox.  The Moodle Sandbox is a place in Moodle where you can practice your Moodle skills (see below for more information).

To get the most out of this tutorial, we recommend that you review all of the general features first.  Then, check your class syllabus for a list of resources that you should be familiar with before the start of the semester.

If you feel that you need more help, check out the Additional Moodle Resources section at the bottom of this page.

The Moodle Sandbox

In several of the links in this tutorial, you will see a reference to the Moodle Sandbox.  This is a special Moodle course area that is only available to academic students for the purpose of practicing working with Moodle features.  Academic students can access the Moodle Sandbox via a link in either:

  • SU 101 Student Orientation class
  • SU 102 Register for the Upcoming Semester

    Additional Moodle Resources

While SU 101 Student Orientation and this tutorial give you the basics of how to use Moodle for your SU online academic courses, it may not be enough for some students to become truly comfortable with their online learning environment. If you still need help with using Moodle, check out these resources from other organizations listed below.  Keep in mind that their Moodle may not look exactly like Summit University's Moodle site:
