We at SU Tech Support are not experts when it comes to creating video assignments.  However, there are a few common sense things to keep in mind when recording videos.

Some webcams and other digital recording devices come with a built-in microphone.  Others rely on a separate microphone to record the audio for your video.  If you are having problems recording sound, first locate your microphone.  You can do this by creating a test video while you move around the room trying to get closer to or farther from the microphone.  Once you have located the microphone, you can adjust its location to change the video’s sound.

If your sound is too loud, you may need to move the microphone away from you, or not speak quite so loudly.  If your sound is too quiet, move the microphone closer to you and speak louder.  If your microphone is built into your computer, you may want to purchase a separate computer microphone that you can place closer to you to record sound.

Some video recording programs allow you to adjust the sound quality before you make the recording.  You may want to adjust these sound settings to ensure a clearer recording.  (This is not the same as editing the video file.  Editing or otherwise changing the video after it has been recorded is not permitted for video assignments.)
