Yes, it is possible to subscribe to just one or a few specific discussions within a forum.  By doing this, you will only be notified of new posts in each of these discussions and NOT the entire forum.


To subscribe to a single discussion in a forum:

  1. Go into the forum by clicking on its title on the course main page.
  2. Locate the Administration block in the forum (in the right-hand sidebar or docked on the left side of the screen).
  3. Under the Forum administration menu, click Unsubscribe from this forum.
  4. Identify the specific discussion that you would like to subscribe to and click the grey dot in the right-hand column of the discussion row (just to the right of the Last post date/timestamp). 
  5. The grey dot should change into a small envelope icon, signifying that you have successfully subscribed to this discussion.
  6. Repeat steps 4-5 for all discussions that you would like to subscribe to.
Note: If you unsubscribe from the forum, you will not receive notifications of new discussions that are started by others (or yourself) in the forum, so be sure to use this setting wisely!  If you would like to be notified of new forum discussions, go back to the Administration block and click Subscribe to this forum under the Forum administration menu.  This will subscribe you automatically to all new discussions added to the forum, without re-subscribing you to older discussions that you have unsubscribed from.
